Case Study:
The HH Global Sustainability Team had been set a goal by the business for all colleagues, across all offices to understand and support HH’s sustainability strategy. This project was called ‘The Playbook’.
Halo by Design was bought in to work with the Chief Sustainability Officer and his team to set an employee engagement campaign strategy to meet the project objectives and support in the activation and measurement of that strategy to ensure it met the business objectives.
The Project
Step 1: Halo set a colleague engagement strategy through which colleagues aligned their values with the values of the company through the 5x SDG’s that HH supports.
Step 2: Colleagues took a simple quiz to be ‘sorted’ into one of the 5 SDG ‘Houses’ which was led by a member of the Group Management Board (the Famous Five). Through taking the quiz they were educated on the sustainability projects HH were working on and other elements of HH’s sustainability strategy.
Step 3: We then shared simple steps that they could take at home and at work to support their SDG. In addition we gave colleagues a branded Teams background so they could ‘badge’ their support in internal and external calls - clearly demonstrating their (and HH’s) commitment and support of HH’s sustainability strategy.
Step 4: Colleagues were encouraged to join the HH Global sustainability channel to stay up to date with the latest sustainability projects and ways in which they could get engaged.
The Results
The initiative achieved strong participation levels across the company’s global workforce:
o More than 40% of the workforce completed the SDG quiz and joined a SDG ‘house’ led by a Group Management Board member.
o 75% of quiz participants downloaded a custom Teams background to show their SDG affiliation & 83% of them displayed it on calls publicly supporting HH’s sustainability goals.
o 62% of colleagues reported making changes at home or at work; from recycling more to promoting suppliers of sustainable merchandise.
o A survey conducted post the campaign showed a significant shift in understanding and support of the HH Global Sustainability Strategy compared to a survey run prior to the campaign.
o The campaign won the ‘Stakeholder Engagement Award’ in the ESG Business Awards 2025 and has been shortlisted for many others. It is also documented in HH’s FY25 Sustainability Report here (page 73)
